Think-pair-share is a strategy for increasing students critical thinking skills. “Think-Pair-Share is a cooperative discussion strategy that provides students with adequate time to think in order to increase their quality of responses”, explains Kaddoura (2013, p.3). It is a three step process. First students think about response to a question or a prompt provided by the teacher. They then compare their thoughts and thinking process with another student, selecting or combining their responses to generate the answer that is most correct and/or authentic. Finally, the teacher selects several groups to share their response with the entire group. As each student knows they are expected to share with a partner, this is also an accountability to stay engaged with a lesson and formulate a response to all questions or prompts. Think-pair-share is an important strategy for visual arts integration as it is a way of getting students to think critically about their answers by providing wait time and checking their understanding with a peer, reassessing their answer, and choosing the best response to share.
