Why?
Guirguis and Pankowski (2017) demonstrate through research that "knowing how your students learn and what strategies best fit your classroom and school are fundamental in the process of learning" (p.103). It is important to explore a wide range of teaching strategies in order to discover what ones work best for your students, your subject, and your teaching style. Imagine these teaching strategies like paint colors on a palette, sometimes you need a dab of this or a whole area of that. Some work best for some areas, while others are needed elsewhere in the composition. Some mix well together, others do not. It is about having the knowledge of when and how to apply them, and about having a whole palette of teaching strategies available at hand in order to create the perfect teaching composition needed by your students.

The ten strategies, listed on the Strategies page, were chosen due to their evidence based success in the Visual Arts Integrated classroom. Each of the ten strategies promote active learning, shown to increase student learning (Bhalli, Sattar, & Asif, 2016). Learning to utilize these strategies in your classroom will ensure you are offering your students the best education possible. Over the next ten weeks, you will be incorporating a strategy a week into your classroom. Each strategy is defined with suggestions as to how it can be incorporated into the Visual Arts Integrated classroom. There are also a variety of internet links with each strategy that will help guide you on how to implement it in your classroom. You will also write a short reflection of your experience, on the Reflections page, to be submitted by the end of each week.
