Think-aloud modeling is where the teacher, or student, describes their thought process and decision making out loud as they solve a problem. This allows students to follow the thought process of that person, leading to an increase of higher order thinking skills through proficient demonstration (Ness & Kenny, 2016). This is an effective strategy in the visual arts integration classroom, as it allows students to better understand the choices made and materials chosen for an example as made by the teacher. The students then consider their own thinking and decision making process as part of their purposeful response to the art project.
