Questioning strategies, in this instance, is referring to both teacher questioning and student questioning. According to Albergaria Almeida (2010), “asking questions is essential to learning how to learn and becoming a lifelong learner” (p.587). Teachers question students in order to check understanding, review information, test their comprehension, and maintain engagement (Brown & Edmondson, 1985, as cited by Albergaria Almeida, 2010). Good questioning by teachers will not only increase student learning, it will model to students how and when to formulate questions of their own. Student questioning will also inform and guide the teacher in their instruction, giving clues as to whether instructions were clear or whether concepts have been grasped. This strategy is a necessary component to any classroom, including a visual arts integrated classroom.
