Collaboration is about two or more students working together to find a solution to a set problem. The teacher acts as a guide and facilitator, with students depending on each other “because of their unique knowledge and perspective” that will combine to help lead them to the solution (Kaendler, Wiedmann, Rummel, & Spada, 2015, p.506). The projects and activities in a visual arts integrated classroom lend themselves to collaborative learning, even if the resulting final unit project is completed independently. Collaborative activities can help students review prior subject learning, brainstorm designs, practice new art skills, and push their creative thought processes.
